About 90 miles away from the São Paulo coast of Brazil is the Ilha da Queimada Grande, popularly being nicknamed the Snake Island. History tells us that about 10,000 years ago, the level of the sea rose up above normal level which led to the separation of the land from the coast of Brazil turning it into an island -This explains why the island could be found in the middle of nowhere.
Just as the name implies “The Snake Island”, is a very dangerous place to step ones foot on. You need the grace and guidance of any spiritual being you serve to step a foot on that island and take another. It is believed that the island is being inhabited by about an estimate of 4-7 thousand snakes among which the most populated is the golden lancehead which is a close related cousin to the lancehead specie which could be found in the city of Brazil.
How deadly could the lancehead snake be? The lancehead snake is known to be responsible for 90 percent of snake bites being occurred in Brazil. On the island can be found the golden lancehead – another specie of pit viper.

The golden lancehead is believed to have the ability of growing over one-and-a half foot long. The venom that secretes from the fangs of this snake is so deadly that it could melt the skin of the human flesh within an hour – this making it the world’s most dangerous reptile. Treating the bite that comes from this deadly creature is of no assurance that the victim is going to survive the bite.
The island had been inhabited by humans over the past years but not until after knowing how dangerous the island could be. However, there have been various deadly tales about the place:
It is being told that a fisherman decided to get some bananas on the island after a stressful working day and on an attempt to walk into the island he was being bitten by this perilous creature. The witnesses of his dead body testified that he was being found in a very deep pool of his own blood on an attempt to get back into his boat and leave the island.
Another deadly incidence being occurred tells us of the story of a lighthouse keeper and his family who got killed by the king of this island. It happened that multiple of snakes entered through the window at their residence at midnight and on an attempt to run away, they were being bitten by snakes that hung around the branches of trees.
The island is being inhabited by this deadly creature as it is being rumored that for every walk per square meter, one can be in encounter with about one and five snakes. What a dangerous place to be!
One will wonder how these snakes dominate this island? These snakes were being trapped on the island after the rise of the water level. They began to produce rapidly and multiplied drastically in population as they never had any competing creature on the island. The snakes feed on migrating birds that relocates from one geographical territory to another.
These birds take a rest on the island after a long distant flight with no idea of them stepping a foot on the land of their worst nightmare. The killing of these birds by the deadly serpent explains its rapidity and strength as we all know that catching and taming a bird is of no easy man’s job.
More stories tells us that about thousands of years back, these snakes were first being introduced into the island by pirates who wanted to secure hidden treasure as it have been discovered that the island is being blessed with a lot of hidden treasures.
Even at the perilous state and nature of this island, tourists and researchers still choose to cuddle the priority of their ambition over there life. I wonder who on earth knows the address of death and still pays a visit to it? A place where death built its castle? Never! Never should anyone in this generation or the next to come.
Having had knowledge of he treasures this island possess, these researches wouldn’t just quench the taste of their selfish reasons by stepping a foot on the island as they are being lured into a dangerous zone.
Officially, the Brazilian government has placed a ban policy on the island. Humans are being deprived the right to be in contact with the island. Researchers and Tourist pay a lot of money to the Brazilian government so as to fulfill their ambition on the island. It sounds weird enough to hear that humans do pay a lot of money in placing their life on risk.
On touring through the island they are being escorted and protected by professional zoologist and doctors. They are also being secured by the Brazilian Navy who has been given the legal right to supervise the wellbeing of the lighthouse on the island and ensure that no one gets in contact with the island.
Due to the prestige the golden lancehead snake has gotten for itself. Humans do find pleasure in purchasing this deadly creature and housing them in a serpentarium in huge amounts of money. It cost about $30,000 - $40,000 to purchase a golden lancehead.
Medically, it is believed that the venom of the snake could be of health importance to human but the act isn’t legally approved yet by the government. People use this as an opportunity to invest into the black market by illegally selling the venom to interested and affordable buyers.
